Affordable housing bill will create new options for residents of Illinois
Cook County – The following can be attributed to Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi, on the signing of HB2621 by Gov. J.B.Pritzker, on July 29, 2021.
"House Bill 2621 creates new incentives to provide affordable housing for low-income residents of Illinois, both through rehabilitation of existing properties and construction of new housing developments. I commend the sponsors, legislative staff, and affordable housing advocates such as the Preservation Compact, the Illinois Housing Council, and Housing Action Illinois for all their work to encourage new housing options for residents in all parts of the state."
BACKGROUND
Among other provisions, HB 2621 creates new programs, to be administered by local assessors, to value Low-Income Housing Tax Credit properties and other affordable housing developments.
