Cook County – The Cook County Assessor’s Office participated in a record-breaking 218 events for homeowners in 2024, helping taxpayers across Cook County file appeals, apply for exemptions, and learn more about the property tax system.

“I am extremely proud of the members of our Outreach team, who work hard every day to make sure that homeowners understand how their assessments and property taxes work,” said Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi. “Their work is a crucial part of making the property tax system more accessible, fair and equitable.”

Assessor staff also participated in a record 62 Spanish-language events. In addition to in-person events, the Assessor’s Office live-streams virtual workshops in English and Spanish for every township that is reassessed. These remain available through our Facebook and YouTube pages.

Two events are scheduled in the coming week:

  • Wednesday, December 11, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Individual assistance for South Chicago Township appeals; 12th Ward Office, 3868 S. Archer Ave., Chicago, IL 60632. Schedule an appointment in advance here
  • Friday, December 13, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Senior resource fair; 2701 N. Sheffield Ave., Chicago, IL 60614

For those unable to make it to an in-person or virtual event, information is also available through the Assessor’s Office website.

Most appeal filings are closed for 2024, but residents of South Chicago Township have until Thursday, December 12 to appeal their assessments. For more information, see the assessment calendar and online appeal application.

Applications for exemptions, which lower property tax bills for homeowners, will re-open in early 2025. For a list of available exemptions, see the exemptions page.
